Shop floor automation systems involve interfacing with humans and various types of manufacturing equipment to guide the operator through the particular build process. Careful consideration of both the man-machine interface and the interfaces to various pieces of equipment is required to achieve success in implementing shop floor automation.
At each step in the process data is collected and logged to a database. This data can then be used to trace the movement of product through the manufacturing process providing a history of each product. The data collected in the manufacturing process is also used to support quality assurance initiatives.
